In the Andalusian city of Cordoba there is a historic quarter with many old and narrow streets leading to some of Spain's most beloved historic sites. Many cars are not allowed to enter unless they are residents or taxis. Outside of this area, however, there are many roads that connect residents in the newer parts of the city to each other. These roads include an extensive network of public buses and an extensive network of bike lanes.
The city launched a pilot program called +BICI in 2021 to have 10 bicycles at the main bus station that commuters can use during the day and return to the same station. Having only one station is very limiting regarding who can use the bikes and where they can go.
Results
The goal of this project was to suggest the best locations for new stations should the city decide to expand the program.
It focused on the most densely populated locations to provide access to the greatest number of people. The analysis used current bus stations to work in tandem with the public bus system, as the +BICI program currently does. The stations were strategically placed on existing bike lanes, connecting to the city's larger network.
